Captain Kalifani Sparks Youthful Momentum in Kapchorwa After Joining NUP

Less than a week after his defection from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Kalifani’s move has already stirred significant political conversation across Kapchorwa. For many young voters who have long expressed discontent with the current administration's lack of attention to issues such as youth unemployment, underfunded education, and poor infrastructure, Kalifani’s alignment with NUP is seen as a breath of fresh air.


Speaking at a local youth gathering on Saturday, Captain Kalifani emphasized that his decision was driven by the urgent need for transformative leadership:

"Kapchorwa deserves leadership that listens, empowers, and delivers. I joined NUP not for politics as usual, but for a new politics—of the people, by the people, and for the people."


His message has quickly gained traction online and in local circles, especially among first-time voters, many of whom are turning to NUP as a vehicle for genuine change.


Political analysts in the region are already taking note, describing Kalifani’s entry into the race as a potential game-changer in what has historically been an NRM stronghold. If the wave of youth support continues, the 2026 election in Kapchorwa Municipality may be one of the most hotly contested in recent history.
