No-Show by Satya Alfred Muban on Elgon Radio Sparks Doubts About 2026 Candidature

KAPCHORWA, UGANDA – The political temperature in Kapchorwa Municipality has risen after a conspicuous absence by aspiring Member of Parliament, Satya Alfred Muban, during Elgon Radio’s popular Saturday Hot Seat debate. Muban, one of the declared aspirants for the 2026 parliamentary race, cited taking his children to school as the reason for missing the live on-air debate – a reason that has drawn widespread criticism and sparked questions about his readiness to lead.

The Saturday Hot Seat, hosted on Elgon Radio 95.4 FM, featured a heated five-year performance review debate among several political heavyweights eyeing the Kapchorwa Municipality seat. Present were Rtd. Col. Chemonges Martin, Rtd. His Worship Kitiyo Patrick Salimo, Rtd. CAO Alex Chelimo, Rtd. Capt. Chemutai Kalifani, Kissa Makira, and prominent businessman Pole Man – all of whom used the platform to sell their vision and critique the current state of leadership.

However, Muban’s absence has triggered a backlash among listeners and political commentators, with some branding his excuse as "cowardly" and "unconvincing." Critics argue that taking children to school could have been planned around or delegated, especially given the significance of the event in shaping public opinion.

“This was a golden opportunity for Muban to face the people and present his agenda,” said a caller during the show. “If he can’t handle a debate, how will he handle Parliament?”

Supporters of Muban have since tried to downplay the incident, insisting that family obligations should not be politicized. But in the heated arena of Kapchorwa politics, the missed appearance may cost him valuable ground as 2026 draws closer.

With the race already shaping up to be one of the most competitive in recent years, the pressure is now on Muban to prove that he’s not only serious about the race, but also ready to match the intensity and engagement levels shown by his rivals.
