NUP Gains Ground in Sebei: Chesang Tom Brown Joins LCV Race in Kapchorwa

Kapchorwa, Uganda – The National Unity Platform (NUP), Uganda’s leading opposition party, is steadily gaining traction in the Sebei sub-region, marking a notable political shift in an area long considered a stronghold of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

In a bold move that signals growing confidence and momentum, Chesang Tom Brown has declared his intention to contest for the position of LCV Chairperson, Kapchorwa District, under the NUP banner. His campaign is rooted in a strong message focused on land rights, fighting injustices, and advocating for proper resettlement—issues that resonate deeply with many in the region.

Chesang’s entry into the race brings the number of confirmed NUP aspirants in Sebei to four, with two from Kween District and two from Kapchorwa District. This rise in NUP candidacy is a significant leap from the 2021 general elections, where Chemutai Harriet, the current NUP Head of Election Commission, was the sole representative from the region.

The growing wave of political participation under the NUP umbrella in Sebei poses a serious challenge to the NRM, which has historically enjoyed unshaken dominance in the area. The new entrants are not just symbolic; they reflect an emerging shift in the region’s political dynamics—one fueled by disenfranchisement over land conflicts, forced evictions, and unaddressed injustices that have plagued the area for years.

As the 2026 elections inch closer, all eyes are on how this new political momentum will reshape the future of Sebei—and whether NUP’s rising popularity will translate into actual wins in an area where opposition voices have historically struggled to take root.

For now, Kapchorwa stands at a political crossroads, with Chesang Tom Brown and other NUP hopefuls leading what could be the beginning of a new chapter in Sebei’s political history.
